LAURE DRESS

January 26, 2017

Today I am very happy to be part of the Laure dress StraightGrain blog tour! Laure is the latest pattern released by the brilliantly talented An from StraightGrain. This pattern was created in collaboration with An + AnneMie.  It features many options (as all StraightGrain patterns do). Three different collar options, four different sleeves, shift dress or drop waist.... I went for the classic qipao style dress - mandarin collar, shift style.  See all the options in the StraightGrain shop. The dress closes with an invisible zip.

An's patterns are really special. Such great designs and so thorough. This design must have been a bit of a headache to work out - lining a mandarin style collar, working out the shapes of the collar stands and making everything come together so beautifully.

I chose this beautiful cotton called Summer Love (swept away - serenity) designed by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics that I had in my stash from Hawthorne Threads.  I think the print of this fabric lends itself to the oriental style of dress.  I used baby pink piping and although I had a go at making the frog closures with pink braid, I opted for simpler is better!

I made a size 4 dress intending it to be for Emily, however it was too roomy on her but I knew it would look great on Juliette - perfect fit - a little short because of the size but I am sure she will still get lots of wear out if it and Emily can wear it next year. If you are sewing a Laure dress and your girl is between sizes, my advice is to choose the smaller size.

You can buy Laure in PDF or on paper. I can't wait to receive my Laure on paper which is in the post! Make sure to check out StraightGrain over the next few Thursdays, you will see many more beautiful Laure dresses!!

Thank you An for inviting me on tour. I ♥ Laure!  It is always a pleasure to sew your patterns!  PS. The girls still likes to read the beautiful Marcel Marlier books you sent us (even though they are in Dutch!! I attempt to read them with a Dutch accent - Emily particularly loves this).

  4. So pretty! And I love the fabric you used... It was one of my first fabric buys years ago, in a different colour combination but just as lovely. Sweet memories :-)
